Food is one of our core values at Camp Swamp. We strive to serve delicious food that campers, counselors, and adult volunteers all enjoy. We appreciate that a great meal, shared with friends, can create sweet memories. We promote mealtimes as special gatherings of our community, viewing every meal as a feast. We have watched time around a table build community and connection here at camp.

We rely on volunteers in the kitchen to prepare our meals under the guidance of our kitchen manager Scott Freiberger. We recognize that many of our volunteers are using a week of vacation from their employment to serve for a week in the kitchen. Each week, our kitchen volunteers have the opportunity to make memories with each other and make connections with the campers they serve. We hear stories from kitchen workers about their experience, often with the common theme: “I didn’t know how much I needed to be here – for me spiritually.” Jesus’ admonition that it is more blessed to give than to receive is proven in a week full of hard work with smiles on the faces of our volunteers. We love seeing friends and family plan their calendar to serve together at Camp Swamp, looking forward to the laughs, the deep talks, the walks, the games, and the space to connect with God.
We appreciate everyone who has ever served in the kitchen – thank you for your willingness to work hard and spend the week out at camp. We are grateful for how you care for our extended Swamp family. We look forward to welcoming our volunteers this summer, some for the first time. Join is in praying for our kitchen workers and their time with us this summer at Camp Swamp.
